ESCENT, MW Consulting Engineers' lighting division, is pleased to announce a significant expansion with the construction of new offices and a comprehensive lighting design lab. The new facilities, set on the fourth floor of the United Security Bank building in downtown Spokane, allow ESCENT designers a broad spectrum of opportunities for exploring the art and science of lighting design with their clients.

The new lighting lab has been established with support from local lighting distributors as a resource to architects, interior designers, specifiers, electrical engineers, utilities, contractors, facilities managers and building owners. The most current developments in lighting fixtures, lamping, energy efficiency and design theory are presented in both hands-on display and workshop formats as a supplement to the more traditional consultation practice of ESCENT.

It is now possible to create a detailed mock-up that simulates an actual lighting installation, facilitating the precise, qualitative understanding of an engineer's lighting calculations. Further, advanced lighting software provides ESCENT designers with a means of generating photo-realistic simulations of building illumination prior to construction. The lab also features a comprehensive library of regularly updated lighting catalogs, featuring fixtures of all varieties, from "workhorse" products to "boutique" luminaires.

Regular seminars on timely lighting topics such as energy conservation and comparative lamping options give an in-depth understanding of the many issues that impact development of lighting concepts. Attendance at these seminars, open houses and mock-up demonstrations has already exceeded 250 architects, interior designers and engineers since the lab opened in March of 2000.
